Late last fall, as my husband was driving into Wichita Falls, he spotted a big object on the side of the road. Being curious he stopped to see what it was. What he found was a safe, unopened and battered.

He was only a mile or so from his brother's shop so he decided to take the safe there and open it. With his son looking on they opened the safe. What they saw as they looked into the safe was money, deposit slips, etc. from the local Applebees restaurant.

When my husband saw what was in the safe, he immediately took the it to the police department.

He went through the usual questioning as a "criminal" even though he was being a good samaritan.

According to the police department all of the contents were accounted for and returned to Applebees.

My husband never received a Thank You or a word of appreciation from Applebees.

A few months ago, I wrote a letter to the Corporate Office stating the fact that my husband would have liked an acknowledgement and a thank you, so that he could prove a point to his 16-year old son that they did the right thing.

We have yet to hear from Applebees.

My husband thinks he is eligible for some kind of reward for the recovery of stolen property, however, a Thank you would be good enough.

We have never eaten at Applebees and never will. I say boycott Applebees because they are inconsiderate and lack the common decency to say thank you for saving them thousands of dollars.

This story is as fishy as a salmon in a bucket of tuna. A good samaritan who cracks open a safe he found on the side of the road? If you believe that story, then I have a war in Iraq for sale. Four billion dollars or best offer.

This is a suspicious story.

First, I find it hard to believe that someone would stop for a large object on the side of the road. Second, when the safe was found to be secured, why did your husband take it somewhere to be opened? He had no reason or right to open that safe. He should have just turned it over to the police and let them take the necessary steps. I'm speculating that your husband and his brother heisted the safe, and then upon opening it had a change of heart. They then decided to shake down Applebees for a lifetime supply of burgers instead. And I find it interesting that you know what the usual criminal questioning is. Is that because your husband IS a criminal? Most likely the cops just couldn't nail him this time. Does your husband have a criminal past?

First of being a restaurant manager I wasnt to say thank you for returning the safe. It is people like you that make me continue to love my job. I appologize to you that this franchisee has not shown you any sign of grattitude. I do not work for this perticular franchise but do work for a franchise of Applebees. The reason I mention this is that most people just see the brand name Applebees and assume they have the right person. Frankly the Applebees Int., the mother company usually just kicks all reports down to franchisees. I did a little research and the franchisee you want is called Concord Hospitality. phone: (402) 421-2551 fax: (402) 421-7563 e-mail: [email protected] Maybe if you call them dirrect you can get some results. I do appreciate your time and ask that you don't hold this one franchisee attitute to be representitive of the big picture.
