Amerivanlines gave me a bid of $1590 to move my household goods measuring 380 cubic feet from a storage facility in Raleigh, NC to my home in Newport Beach, CA.

Once the goods were loaded onto the truck (2 days late, the driver called and said he had picked up 680 cubic feet of goods and wanted an additional $990, which included an additional $590 deposit. Since I knew what I had and can prove it, I refused to comply with the scam and I certainly wasn't giving them an additional "deposit".

For 3 weeks I called the company at least daily, trying to find out how my 380 cubic feet of goods had magically become 650 cubic feet. Unable to get ANY cooperation from the company, I told them I would file complaints and contact the police. At that point, the person I spoke with who claimed to be the manager ("Jay") said he didn't want to do business with me and wanted to return my goods to the storage facility where he had picked them up.

I said fine, I will pay you $250 for your time and you can return the other $500 I've already paid you. When can you deliver the goods?" He put me on hold for a couple minutes then came back on and said the goods would be returned no later than Aug 1.

Of course it was just another lie. My goods have not been returned, I have heard nothing, and I have no idea where my goods are or how (or if) I will get them back.

The police say they have received many complaints on this company and Amerivanlines is under investigation, but they can only do so much.
