I was a volunteer at Hale Farm, part of the Western Reserve Historical Society for 14 years. Having a hard time just getting a free meal from the farm, I asked for a list of the salaries of the top 3 paid people. I was told that I would have to drive to Cleveland, about 45 miles round trip, pay a very high price for 47 pages xerox'ed of IRS form 990.

None of this information could be sent to me in the mail. I told them if I didn't receive the information I was going to volunteer somewhere else. I never received it, so I walked.

Now thanks to guidestar.org, all the IRS 990 forms are on the net. I called up the WRHS on guidestar.org and found out the top CEO of the WRHS, which only has 317 employees, was paid $11,000 less than the President of the United States in the year 2000. Yes, for a 40 hour workweek, he was paid $189,000.00. The President recived $200,000 the same year for a 7 day 24 hour workweek. ANY ORGANIZATION THAT HAS THAT MUCH MONEY CAN AT LEAST GIVE THE VOLUNTEERS FREE MEALS AND TRAVEL MILEAGE. Thw WRHS relies on donations, maybe this fact should be given to all those who donate.
