United Van Lines
United Van Lines moved us from Indianapolis, Indiana on
November 20, l999. The truck did not arrive until December 4
which was three days late. Several items were nicked and scratched, while an antique coffee table was missing. A valuable
antique mirror was supposed to have been packaged but was not.
Instead the driver put it in pads, bound it with rubber bands,
put it into the cab where it severely damaged. He then, without
our permission, took it to a mirror shop in Fountain Hills for
repair. Numerous phone calls to United and to the driver for its
return were unsuccessful. Finally, I drove the 70 miles round
trip to get it. It was poorly repaired. Eventually, United's
adjustor had a furniture restorer do the job correctly.
Eventhough we were staying with friends while awaiting the
household goods, I feel that we are owed some monetary reimburse-
ment for our inconvenience, eventhough we did not go to a motel
for which United said they would pay the bill. United has refused to see it my way.
They are also refusing to either find or pay for the lost
coffee table and refund the charge for the mirror carton plus
the cost of packing and unpacking the antique mirror from it.
I have made many calls to the Indianapolis Planes United
Company and their headquartes in Cincinnati with little results.
The whole thing has been a stall which has now gone beyond 90
days. I will continue to pursue the issue to the top headquarters in Fenton, Missouri, but I am really disgusted and
frustrated with the entire matter.
My advise is that if you travel, do no use United. However,
I am not sure any other moving company would be any better.
