I rented a 12 foot trailer from U-Haul for a cross country trip. After they hooked up the trailer hitch to my van hitch, I loaded it and began my 3000 mile journey. Only 200 miles into the trip, the trialer hitch broke causing a serious accident. Not only did U-Haul's Insurance (Western Republic)not pay for the damages which included a totaled van and emergency room fees, they refused to return my rental fees for the defective trailer. I finished my trip with Ryder.

I work for a company who is an independant dealer of U Haul equipment. I was wondering, did you take out the safe move insurance for this move? It is supposed to cover you in case of an accident. If you do not have the insurance, you are 100% responsible for any damage incurred from the rental equipment. I agree that there are many vehicles sent out on rental that should probably deserve a one way trip to the junk yard, I see them every day, and it is the dealers responsibility to report any damage or failure of the vehicle. Unfortunately, many dealers are in it only for the money and don't care what they send out. The insurance relieves the customer of any responsibility. Also, anyone who reads this, please don't accuse all U Haul dealers because of a few inconsiderats who don't care.
