I am a former employee of The Humane Association of CNY. I terminated my employment October 2003. I had intended to do everything possible with in my means to be an invaluable part of these homeless animals' lives for the long run,the pay did not matter.

For the past year I have stayed at the shelter just for the very fact I was afraid of how the animals were going to be cared for with out my help. I have strong doubts about the President / manager's abilities, judgment and authority.

Do to the intolerable conditions and inconsistent rules that change with out notice the humane has one of the biggest turn-around of employees I have ever seen. The over worked and inexperienced staff is left to manage the cleaning, vaccinations, grooming, transporting to veterinarians office, inventory, and general mental health of the animals at the shelter.

The President / manager removes herself from the day to day responsibilities of the shelter. In the 1 years I have been and employee I have only once seen the President / manager leave the front entrance of the shelter.

The President / manage has refused canines refuge at the shelter for being 5 or 6 years old. At this time a beagle by the name of MAX 6 years old, and a Treeing Walker Coonhound 1 year old has had their very lives threaten at the NO KILL SHELTER for the beagles age and the Walkers barking.

At this time October 2003 the shelter and its animals with in, under the current manager / president have ringworm, coccidea and upper respiratory infection. Just visit the shelter and see for yourself. BEWARE
It will not be pleasant.

I miss my dogs.

Joyce Goike needs to LEAVE!!!!

I'm leaving the Humane Association and I previously wrote in defense of them, but FORGET IT. I'm no longer in defense of anyone. The place sucks and WHY? Because the President and "Manager" Joyce Goike is in charge and she's CRAZY. She won't accept new ideas and she has her favorites on the staff (Julie Baxter) and what she says is the "law" and that's that. Period. End of story. Nothing else to say.

So, let ME just say that the animals are SUFFERING. Joyce thinks that by taking in EVERY SINGLE ANIMAL that she's making a difference but INSTEAD, she's making EVERY animal SUFFER. These cats are DYING. Not so much the dogs - but the cats... we have TOO MANY and WE CAN'T KEEP UP and there are TOO MANY KITTENS and they are getting SICK and DYING. The Calicvirus was running rampant through our shelter and now URI if running rampant and we have sick and UNTESTED cats living next to cages of TESTED cats waiting to go into our "cat room." Does this make sense? NO!!!!!

I can't stand it anymore. I'm leaving. Joyce has no respect for her staff OR the people walking in the door wanting to adopt. She treats her staff like gum on the bottom of her shoes and she treats people walking in the door wanting to adopt like they have the plague. Not to mention she's prejudiced and hates black people and homosexuals.

Frankly, she needs to get the f**k out and stay the f**k out and let someone with more INTEGRITY run the Humane Association. Because, UNTIL then, the animals will continue to suffer and what's worse than THAT?

Oh, and by the way, my name is Amy McBride and I'm NOT afraid to tell you who I am or what is going on at the Humane Association of CNY.

This is in response to Janine's comment. The Humane Association in question ONLY deals with dogs and cats, not exotics..thank God! That would only add to the problems of the place. Any reputable animal protection organization would be against exotic pets. Not only are the means of getting exotics terrible, but their secluded lives are miserable, and many pose a threat to the health and lives of humans.

This is clearly the work of a disgruntled ex-employee and should be heeded as such

As a collector of rare and/or exotic animals I can tell you that the Humane Society in question supplies some of the finest animals on the Atlantic Seaboard. Over the last seven years I have adopted an orangutan, a sea otter, two ptarmigans (male and female), an emu, and a puma from the Society, all healthy and with no problems. I have a dingo and a black adder on the way, and I am sure that they will be in tip-top shape as well. I recommended them to a friend who is entering the exotic meats business and she has had no problem with them either.

My advice to the employee who posted this after being terminated: get over it and go find another job!
