I used to be a loyal, happy customer of Sears until I was charged $37.27 of interest and late payment charges that accumulated due to their own internal slow processing.

While on a business trip in CA, I had sign up for a SEARS credit card and purchased a $30 office jacket. Later I payed the entire $30 bill off via the telephone. 2 months later, I receive a bill for 37.27 due to finance charges and late payment. I called up customer service to find out why.

*A rep named "Katie" answered. I explained that I couldn't possibly have any charges b/c I had paid the bill in full. SHe said that I had paid the bill, but a late charge had occurred b/c it wasn't paid on time. I told her that was impossible b/c I paid it over the phone and there was no mailing lag time.

I told her it must be because of slow, internal processing and I wanted the charges removed. She said I couldn't prove that and I should pay the $37.27.

As a result, I WILL NEVER BUY ANYTHING FROM SEARS AGAIN. I will also warn all of my friends, family, coworkers, and students to NEVER BUY FROM SEARS AGAIN due to their poor customer service and fraudulant billing. I am a well paid professional in my late 20's who owns a hobby farm and frequently purchased many items for home repair from sears.

Luckily I have 60 -70 years left to warn everyone I know about sears and their theiving practices. I'm certain your customers will greatly appreciate all of my purchases. I hope the 37.27 was worth a lifetime of customers lost!!!

Incidentally, I have to call BS on "you paid it over the phone". You couldn't possibly have paid your bill over the phone if your bill was on time- know why? Because the only department that even HAS a phone payment system is COLLECTIONS! They can only access your account if you're more than 30 days past due.

So, pay your bill. It's not hard. Millions of people do it!

First- chill out! I used to work for Sears credit. In July/August, the payment processing center goofed up the posting of some people's payments and incorrectly recorded the date. This caused late fees/finance charges.

It was several days before they figured out where and what the problem was. Everyone makes mistakes-relax! You just called before we knew what was going on. All of the affected accounts were systematically fixed & the correction will be on your next billing statement.
