Tile contractor, Robinson Tile, was suppose to:

1)  re-grout entryway tile.

2) prep living room floor by leveling the floor

3)  install crack isolation membrane

4) Install  tile, supplied by homeowner. (12 x 24 porcelain tiles-Daltile Marble Attache Carrera.

Mr. Robinson took a $500 deposit, then claimed to be leveling the floor while tiling using cracking isolation membrane mortar.    I first noticed a large gap between the bottom step from the kitchen into the living room. I asked Mr Robinson about the gap & he said he was going to grout the joint.  I pointed out this was too large of a space to grout & he argued.

Then I noticed a large amount of uneven tiles (known in the tile trade as lippage).  Almost every tile has a corner higher than a nickel when laid flat. The edges of these rectified tiles are sharp,  the edges will cut bare feet, & also be susceptible to chipping.  the contractor did not use antillippage devices/towers to avoid this issue.

In the unfinished corners of the room I can see under the tile, large honey comb like spaces. I am able to stick my finger in the spaces.  I researched the issue, this is known as "spot bonding".  It's a violation of ANSI standards.  The floor tile will not be able withstand heavyweight.  Even a heel strike will cause breakage.  Water from mopping can get trapped in these cavities.  Additionally, the glue used in spot bonding is brittle & subject to breakage.

The entry way was regrouted leaving gaps in the grout, & the former grout which is white shows through.
