Rip Off Payphones
I came into some money recently and wanted a good place to invest
my money. I came across this company that sells payphones. We
talked several times over the phone, and the guy told me of all the
money I would make in just a short time. He told me that there
wasn't much to do but buy these payphones from his company, then a
locator would contact me within a month to place the phones in the
already preplaced locations. Well it has been almost 6 months, the
phones are still in the boxes in my garage, I am out $9,448.00.
That is with the price of the phones, locator fees, installed phone
lines, and enclosures for the outside locations of the phones.
I called the company back and asked that I wanted to return the
phones, since they were still in the boxes and that I would pay for
the postage too. I was told very firmly that there was a "no-buy
back agreement" and that I was just stuck with the payphones. I
feel that I was uninformed. I felt that i had the option of
"always" returning merchandise that was not used and also had the
reciept. Apparently I was wrong.

I'm With Ameritel Now...

Hello! I am currently getting setup on a payphone route with Ameritel. I have read that they were in some trouble with the FCC in the past. To date, they have kept their promises. I have my phones, the additional equpment is on the way, I have my phone monitoring software, my phone lines are installed, and the phone installer is waiting for me to call regarding an installation date. I have six, 5 year contracts (signed) with local business owners that are allowing me to place my phones on their property and pay a commission based on my coin revenues. There were times I was a little nervous (like times I couldn't reach my sales rep.) but all has been well. And the POTENTIAL earnings they speak about are consistent with the research I did on payphones around the country.
It sounds like you were only short a phone installer, and they can be found on your own if you get stuck with phone equipment. I see that your message is a few years old. How did you end up making out with Ameritel? I hope to hear from you! I'll let you know how my story turns out in the end as well.
I can say one thing...I did a lot of research before I went into it. It helped when it was time to "negotiate" certain things and I was able to speak re: payphones with a little confidence and authority.
