Retriever Towing Tow Scam Portland Oregon
My car got towed away on 12/26/07 and it cost me 175 dollars to recover it from the lot after only half an hour of being there. they said that they had a flat fee of 150.00 because it was night time and 25.00 for opening the gate (they so-called this thing the gate fee). in the end they realized that the tow was a mistake and decided to give me a refund because I complaint to the property management company that own the building my car was towed from. the situation was a dead end for them because the towing guy was basically waiting for someone to park their car so he could take it. and even thou' the signs posted on this building are very few they still had the guts to take my car and charge me 175.00 even when the city guidelines mention that it is ILLEGAL for a tow-truck driver to be waiting on the lot where he's towing from and he has to be either called in or within 1000 feet of the property in question not parked AT THE PROPERTY. this is a practice that Retrieving Towing denies saying that they drivers are very honest people. (Ha!-Ha!) and of course in order for me to get my refund I had to call like 30 times and fight over the phone with them because they would not admit to this.
My solution: I called the property management office in Seattle (Where they are located). filed a complain with the city of Portland, file a complaint with the property management company and made enough noise in regard to a law suit and what it would entail for Retrieving Towing to go to court for something that is Illegal on their end. Of course they will have me waiting for my money for like two weeks but I guess at this point I don't have a choice and it is better to get my money back in two weeks than let this people get away with this.
On top of everything they were completely rude. something else to watch for because these guys are sharks waiting to rip you off so if you see a towing sign for this company or a tow driver hanging out near by a towing zone. call 911. This is an Illegal Practice and We as consumers need to stop it.
