Providian Visa .. tricky sneaky late fees

I currently hold a Providian Visa Card and while I have a zero balance at this time I was concerned about a situation which occurred recently. I received a bill from Providian with a balance showing and a late payment charge added in. Since I had paid this balance several weeks ago I was alarmed that the company hadn't credited my account. Then I notice the statement's due date - September 15, 2000.

I called Providian and spoke with a Customer Service Rep who had trouble understanding why I was calling. To make a long story short I was told my statement was mailed August 21 and delivery takes 7 to 10 "working" days. My August statement arrived at the time my September statement should have and I still haven't received my September statement which should have been mailed September 21. If you have a Providian Visa and haven't received a statement call them at 1-800-356-0011. If you want to talk to a person press zero on you telephone key pad.
