My husband and I specifically chose to accept a credit card offer from Providian due to advertised 0.00% finance charges on transfer of balances until January 2004. We had $5000 on another credit card at 0.00% financing that was ending in June 2003 that we wanted to transfer.

When I received my first statement, an 8.99% finance charge was applied to the transfer of balance. I called to clear up the mishap. I talked to several employees who insisted that the offer was $0 charge for transfer of balance and 0.00% finance charges on purchases. I asked to speak to a manager/supervisor who told me to fax the information to them because they have so many offers and he wasn't aware of that one.

I called back and asked to speak to a manager and was told none were available. I repeatably told them I would wait until one was available instead of waiting for them to call me back within 48 hours. I waited about 3 minutes and Milton, a manager, told me that he was unable to help me. So much for customer service. I asked to speak to his supervisor and he told me no that wasn't possible. He gave me an address to write to and a fax number. I told him to cancel my account and I would send the $5000 but not the $29.64 in interest charges.
