For several years, many Pharmacies have been filling prescriptions that they systematically alter for profit
without any interferences from either State or Federal agencies.
The Prescription that your and my Doctor prescribes that exceeds
the arbritary number of pills the Doctor prescribed (ie:90)
is shortened by pharmacy to 30 or as low as a weeks supply. You
and I must pay the minimum of matching pay for that medication
each time the prescription is filled. Therefore a Doctor who
knows you will require a medication for 90 or more days, will
find the prescription filled for 10 days or 30 days. Each time $5.00 is paid so the matching fund for that 90 or 100 days supply
costs you not $5.00 but $45 or $50. My question is, are we
going to allow a Pharmists to "prescribe?" Does a prescription
(medical) entail ONLY the medication? If so why not change the
strength? NO, prescrptive medication requires the information
as to STRENGTH, CHEMICAL COMPOSITION, AND QUANTITY. Without
these figures, it is not complete. Alterating these figures
is falsely prescribing medication unless the Insurnce agent
is a qualified medical Doctor or the Pharmists is. Our
medicines are prescribed in the quantity the Doctor requests.
If not completely filled, the prescribed medication should not be charged when refilled short of the amount authorized by THE DOCTOR.
