I recently had my 4 cylinder, VW Jetta taken in for repairs. It was having difficulty starting and was told by a good friend that I needed a tune up, fuel filter and injection cleaning and maybe wires. It was late in the evning and shops were closed so I brought it to Pep Boys. This shop is on Long island and not far from my home.
I explained my car was having trouble starting and I needed a tune up, fuel filter and maybe fuel injection cleaning. the fellow behind the desk told me they would HAVe to do an engine diagnostic. I told him that it was not necessary as I knew what I needed, but he said they would NOT touch the car without this $64.99 service. I was tired and agreed. I left the car. The next day a man called said that i did indeed need the tuneup and fuel filter and a new rotor and wires. I said ok. When I picked yup the car that afternoon I was handed a bill for $367.01. 89.82 for parts and an unbelievable $249.82 for labor. I was shocked. I was charged for 4 hours of labor on a job that actually tok less than 2 hours. The labor is is posted on a sign above the desk, but suddenly this did not apply to my car.
I have showed to this bill to numerous peple, know, edgeable about auto repair and all have said this is a rip off!
I am a single mother of 2 and living in a home that is foreclosed. I am on disibility and not in any financial situation where I can pay almost $400 for a tune up.
I have tried to reason with the comapny who have been rude and unreasonable. These are the worse type of crroks. The ones who steal from thepublic under the guise of business.
