Upon inspection a dire emergency is reported and the technician announces he has found a problem much greater than the use of my fireplace. He reports the terracotta flu that houses the HVAC is cracked and requires special plumbing to prevent it from leaching co2. None of which work he is interested. Though he will clean the chimney and make these essential repairs but instead of the $79 it will be $637.95. Although you must act immediately as your tenant is in grave danger of co2 poisoning.
He is there under two hours. I understand from my brother he was cleaning the flu (which has a door to pull the stuff out) but otherwise no other equipment or what not was used. So what's up with the odd charge? When I inquired about the charge being so high the owner basically told me I was the least of his problems - he had way more experience with much more and that should i refute the charge he will place a lien on my property.
Buyer beware. I didn't do my homework THIS TIME. The risk at $79 seemed small but I let a wolf into my home and he took advantage of the situation with FEAR.
Now I'm faced with having a reputable company come in and do an inspection as I have no confidence in the work.
