Smoke and mirrors and ethics...

#2Consumer Suggestion

Sun, September 18, 2005

Memberworks is also AT HOME REWARDS and a few
others, and yes, they are now "Vertrue"...

Until recently, I worked for a software
company which sold these programs, and as
far as I know, still does.

Bear in mind, these "paid up discount
programs" CAN, properly used, save people
lots of money, especially if they travel.

This firm, however, has a bad habit of
not sending the information--"the keys
to the kingdom"--during the trial period.

Employees are under tremendous pressure
to sell these programs, and though they
make a tiny commission, employees were
actually FIRED for not pushing the programs
hard enough or for not selling enough bulk.

I have known people who saved thousands
off the programs just in travel expenses
and using a few key retailers, where discounts
were as high as 20%, year long.

However, even they complained that the
"mother company" made it difficult to
purchase items, often simply not answering
their phones for hours at a time. Not
surprisingly, the websites were also
frequently under "maintenance".

No matter how sluggish they might be
in getting out the information or product,
though, there was NEVER any failure to bill
the customer at the first available instant.
