An individual I know and trust invited me to a seminar on leadership training and personal development. She said I had been on her mind for over a week. How could I say no? Uusally I do research, probe deeper and sleep on my decisions, however I was only given a day to register. She asked if it was going to change my life, what was there to think about. This person has a global influence I might ad. I had some other commitments which I like to honor and she hemmed and hawed so I did what I could to move my schedule. I had a deadline I missed which cost me a chuck of change unfortunately. A liitle about me, I have invested time and money on resources like workshops and books by Jim Rohn and Brian Tracy and others so why not do this. I was told it's experiential learning so I can't easily share what it will look like for me. I had no clue what this meant. Now I see there are videos on YouTube that nobody mentioned. Also I needed a tax deduction so why not. I had been up since 5 am on that Friday to finish a lot of deadlines. I thought for sure there would be coffee or a beverage. Nope. $500. and not even a bottle of water nor even a glass of water was provided and yet a table of merch and books was in front of me. We had to stand up to agree to a list of non negotiables like only water in a covered container was permitted for a beverage that we were required to bring. Another red flag was raised in my head. The environment suddenly felt very controlled. Being a psych major plus pastoral counseling I kept waiting for the punchline of bad joke while intently listening and engaging. The first day goes until midnight. The company chooses day one to go until midnight. Common sense that when we are sleep deprived, we will naturally be vulnerable. I left for home with a migraine and threw up. We were told to share a goal, success and personal challenges with a room of strangers. Disappointment and dissatisfaction was delivered. Our trainer was a former lawyer. The hype in the room was that like an MLM. I have a lot more to say. I conclude, save your money, set goals and buy some books like Boundaries. Most of the trainers are Christians yet do not pray in class, teach the Bible nor say the Lord's name.
