Complaint Review: Key West Express Fort Myers Beach

Key West Express Fort Myers Beach Key West Express Rip Off Travel was cancelled due to weather and staff told us we had to come back with in 6 months or lose $200. We are from Canada and that was not possible Fort Myers Beach Florida

I purchased Key West Tickets for a friend for her birthday.  We had two years to use them and planned to go on her birthday this year.  The day before our sailing we received notificatioin that the sailing was cancelled due to weather.  I called to ask if we would be able to get our money back and was informed that we could not but they could extend the validation date for 6 months.  I informed the agent that we could not come back with in 6 months but that we could book off for the same time next next year and she said it was not possible to extend the ticket for 1 year.  I then asked to speak to someone who might be able to negotiate something with me and was told to talk to another woman.  The next woman (Kathy) told me she was head of HR?  She indicated that the the only option was to give the tickets to someone else (although we also read that the tickets were non-transferable)?? I enquired if they were simply going to keep the $200 even though they had been the ones to cancel the trip. 

 She then began to berate me and try to shame me into giving up by saying things like "that's what happens when people opt to buy cheap tickets rather than fork out the full fare"!  She began to tell me that we all have problems and that her daughter was raped at Christmas and almost died, and her son died last year and now her husban is also gone.  When I stated that $200 was alot of money to just walk away from she said "I have two cleaning jobs coming up in the next week.  If it is so imporant to you, I will mail you the $200 out of my own pocket.  My children will have to go without presents for Christmas but at least we will have dinner together.  As this bizarre conversation continued, I let her know that this was not personal and that this was a business/company issue not one an employee should try to resolve personally.  Her next comment was "It's fine, I always try to give to a charity at Christmas."

This company is the most unprofessional and untrustworthy company I have ever run into.  It was like being in a bad movie.  Please warn others to stay away from this rip off waiting to happen and from a company that appears to have no interest in customer service.
