Kely Lyons and her husband sublet our Sherman Oaks house for an extended period of time. They had a neurotic aversion to any kind of noise and conflicted with our next-door neighbor over noise from their dog (who makes very little noise and only rarely). They often paid rent late. There was always some hard luck story as to why the rent was late, again.

As agreed, we covered their utilities for the first year and a half, and then re-negotiated for them to pay utilities for the house. Utilities were often paid late or only partially. When they fell a month and a half behind on utilities and came up with more hard luck stories as to why they could not pay on time we decided to end the sublet and move back to the house.

We negotiated to allow them to not pay the outstanding and upcoming utilities in return for their forfeiture of their $1,000 security deposit, which was less than the utilities owed. The last month rent was prepaid when they moved in. We gave them over five weeks notice (only 30 days was required on our agreement) but they were unwilling to vacate the house when we needed it back, causing me to lose work in Los Angeles and incur additional travel expenses for business in San Francisco.

I acquiesced to them staying the house an additional week under the condition that they pay $500 in cash for the additional week they occupied the house, to be paid when they relinquished the house to us. The house was left in good physical condition, but very dirty, with stains in the toilet bowl, grime in the kitchen and dust and cobwebs everywhere.

When Kely returned the house to us she had another hard luck story and was unable to pay us, but promised it shortly. After a week and a half I demanded the money and she demanded an accounting of the unpaid utilities, and has since accused me of extortion.

The entire experience was unpleasant, we were unable to get the house back when we needed it and she stiffed us for the extra week they occupied the house. This woman has no intgrity and is not to be trusted.
