I heard an add about Internet Speedway (hereafter referred to as IS) on the radio. I called them and was told that to receive information about the company I must pay $9.97 (S and H). I paid by credit card and the information arrived in about 7 days. The information was a CD, a video and a few papers.

My mistake was not reading the small print on the outside of the box stating that the program had to be returned in 30 days. for a full refund. I did not know this was a program, I was told it was information only.

When my next credit card statement arrived I was being charged 59.95 by IS. Also between 12 Aug and 1 Sep, There were three other charges by internet companies that I had never heard of.

I reported the charges to the fraud department of my credit card company and they said they would take care of it. I cancelled my card and received new cards. They did take care of it and my money was refunded on all four of the charges.

Next we were contacted by a collection agency for a bill of $300.00 from IS. We told them that we had not bought any programs and had received information only and would not pay. The collection agency told us we had not read the fine print

We then contacted IS after many phone calls, many fruitless waits, and many unanswered E mails. The told us in effect, "tough you did not return the box in 30 days and that means you bought the program". They insisted we had been given all the information beforehand and this is untrue.

We called again to get the name of the collection agency so we could straigten things out and when we finally got through we were told that they would return our call and give us the name and number of the agency, they never returned the call.

Now we have a debt at an unknown collection agency and possibly our credit is being messed up. We have since found out that there are a lot of bad things being put on the internet about IS.

FTC, AG's Offices, and THE RADIO STATION!

#3Consumer Suggestion

Thu, December 08, 2005

You need to file an online complaint with the FTC, contact your AG's office and the AG's office where this company is located. You should also contact the radio station where you heard the ad and advise them of what has transpired. Good luck. IF the collection agency calls you back, make sure you have a phone recorder and tell them you are recording the call (unless you first check your state laws to find out if it is legal to record without notifying the other party). Check out other websites for your legal rights with regards to collections....and Good Luck!

Monterey Financial Services

#3Author of original report

Thu, December 08, 2005

I have now been contacted by Monterey Financial Services demanding payment. I called and asked to talk to a manager. He was nothing more than a thug and bully. Everytime I tried to explain to him he would cut me off and yell and call me a liar and intimate that I was a dead beat. He threatened to send the account to a collection agency that would cost me way more in charges and the letter from them threatened to ruin my credit report. I have looked this company up on the internet and they have a really bad rep. I think they might be the same company. If you call the number on the credit card you get Monterey instead of Internet Speedway. On Complaints.com I have read the exact same story from someone else. I have notified the US Postal Inspectors Office, what else can I do. Any suggestions?
