I wish I had found ripoffreport.com earlier but I just came across it now so this might be a little late, so I'll just copy and paste all of what I have on my myspace blog and put it on here... This is the letter I sent to the state attorneys office in Michigan early 2007... Have fun reading it.

Hi to who this matters. The following is a letter I have sent out to HSBC via the Better Business Bureau just recently:

Hi BBB, My name is Erin and I'm helping my friend out. Please Help. Here's the complaint.

My friend and his mom bought a motorcycle from Metro Powersports from Canton, MI., and got a loan to pay for the bike through HSBC. The bike cost 6,999, however everything, interest and other fees, ended up costing over 18 grand. I said NO WAY to him. They called Metro to cancel it the VERY next day. A few calls came in and out for a few days. They kept getting the run-around eventhough Metro said that if there's any problem, they can cancel it and Metro would come and pick it up.

Soo a week later Metro didn't do nothing about it. They got the first bill later. And my friend called HSBC to get it canceled. He did, and they sent someone out and repo the bike. A few weeks later they received a letter stating that the bike went to another dealership in California and that they still have to pay off the remaining balance. My friend was frustrated he didn't know what to say or do.

That was all about two years ago. Last year '06 he was getting calls from dept collectors. He refused to answer them, and the few times he did answered them, he told them to cancel the bike, they never listen. Very bad customer service from these people. So in the fall of '06, he and his mom was summon into court, they called a lawyer in Dowagiac, MI to help. By the time the date came around, the calls to the lawyer came and went with the following:

Went to lunch. or We're busy at the moment, can we take a message.

Yes who-ever lawyer they went to, didn't do such a good job of protecting the citizens of the State of Michigan.

Here's a bit more info on what has happen in the pass:
My friend has filed a complaint against Metro with the BBB in Detroit. All he got back was a letter saying "Buyer's remorse"
My friend was told by Metro that he can cancel the bike if they faxed in a copy of his MI Driver's License to Metro. He did, and he got a plate for doing so... what a LIE!

Now here's the situation right now:
They are in the process of finding a better lawyer.
His mom's bank account is now garnish by the State of Michigan.
Their taxes/others are garnish.
He and I are considering filing a complaint against the old lawyer.

Here's what I'm doing:
I'm considering sending a couple letters to the media.
I've sent a couple letter to my area political leaders, including Fred Upton (R) of Michigan.
I am now filing this complaint with the BBB against HSBC, and soon with the state attorneys office.
I'm very much considering blogging up this letter for the world to see. "your seeing it now myspace peeps" :D

Here's the Metro's Info in BBB database:

Customer Experience

Based on BBB files, this company has an unsatisfactory record with the Bureau due to a pattern of complaints and unanswered complaints. The company has resolved some complaints presented by the Bureau; however, some complaints remain unresolved. Complaints on file with the Bureau in general concern advertising and deceptive selling practices issues.

I don't know as of this posting on ripoffreport.com that it's going to make much difference in our resolve... but as long as I keep posting it all over the net/media, hopefully my words will change one persons mindset on this matter.

I've gone around and checked all my family and friends bills to see if they have any bills with HSBC (Household) and or with anything to do with that company so I can get them cancel. I'm glad I don't work for them and that they can go straight to hell for doing illegal s**t like that "same thing with Metro dumbass, they can go to". If anyone has an account with these people, well u do what u want... I know what I did and I've gone to everyone I know to tell them to cancel and not do any business with HSBC "my friend is going to everyone he knows to cancel their bills to HSBC". Go to that BBB link if u want to know more about HSBC and their bigger operations... I don't like shitty company like that and will never do business with them...

Just like any contract around, The old saying is true "Read Before you Sign" I cant feel sorry for the huge paychecks that were brought home while my boyfriend worked there. I couldnt imagine some of the amounts people signed & paid for! They were just alil too excited to read the bottom line! They would sign, hop on their new ride & drive away. Thats why noone will get anywhere legally, You signed a binding contract, next time .... take the time to read it.

#5UPDATE EX-employee responds

I have read your thread, it's true, no one at HSBC wants to take ownership of a problem, I worked for them in the UK & although your fiscal & reporting methods are diffrent. they basically closed HSBC UK down & shipped it to india lock stock & barrel. only to realise it did not work & 5 years later moved it all back. The problem was they lost all ther experiance & common sense, so now you have managers who are in their 20's making decisions which they couldn't make as call agents.
My advise is to look at the paperwork & figures - HSBC anouced record write offs 1.5M who will pay ?? the customers more late fees, cheap service, while india is getting the money/investment for all his for the moment, until wage prices push it too costly to have call centres there, they are starting to move to south america - Brazil.. soon the only way to speak to some one will be via a diffrent continent. while i really feel for you & your friend, this is the way business works, they don't care about the small person, all they worry about is how much profit they make and how much they can save, after all, they get bigger bonus. best advice i can give is to stay local, that way you can speak to someone (who works withing the same post code/zip code) as you and normally get issued resolved. we need to stop this global colonization from these companies. all they are doing is what the british did years ago,. I also cannot believe the response from the attorney office, surely they are they to assist the public regardless of situ. they are a public body & hense you pay their wages & support their pension fund. so regardless of the current situ (courts etc...) they should have a duty of public service to assist you.

sorry i could not provide you with more assistance, but chin up there are a lot of people out there having the same problems ... united we stnd/devided we fall....

My reply to comment...

Soo after leaving this long letter on ripoffreport.com for 2 months, and only one rebuttal. I take it this wasn't viewed by many. After reading the comment left behind, the problem with that comment is that we're looking for a resolution, not sympathy or even pity for this family... when leaving a comment like "it got repossessed", that was like a "DUH!" comment from pretty much anyone including me reading that.

Another problem is that the comment left behind mentions this family went it the wrong way, when in fact she never mentions what type or what way they should have done it. Another fact "though not mention in my post above" is that this family doesn't speak any english except my friend, though he tried all the best way of getting this resolve early and quick, to the best of his knowledge including mailing letters to the media, state officials, BBB, etc. and only the State Attorney and BBB reply. The media ran scared and Fred Upton added his e-mail address into his little spam newsletter "no reply to letter above". What B.S. is that!

Anyways, I went ahead and done some searching for "HSBC" and it seems that customer service with them seems to be the worst in the banking business. One post mentions the run around and "foreign non-english" speaking support. Another one I read seems that they surprise a loaner with high interest rate. I can see why HSBC sucks. With Metro, I would welcome any attorney that would help my friend's family find resolve with that company. The attorneys they went to around here won't do anything which is a big UGH!!

Here is the problem

Here is the problem. HSBC already gave the money to Metro. When your friend had HSBC pick up the bike, he essentially had it repossessed. He did not simply return it to Metro for a refund and HSBC did not give it back to Metro in return for their money. HSBC is out the money they paid to Metro.

Your friend's beef was really with Metro, but unfortunately your friend went about it the wrong day. Essentially your friend owes HSBC for the money loaned.

When you take a loan to purchase from a dealer, that is a 3rd party transaction. The lender agreed to pay the dealer and you agreed to pay the lender. You have to return the item to the dealer and the dealer has to return the money to the lender. The lender is not at fault here and cannot recoup their money unless they get it from your friend.

It looks like Metro gave your friend the "run around" until it was too late. Also, I have never heard of a company happily going to "pick up" their item that you want to return. That should have been a red flag right there.
