Hertz Car Rental Sneaky and unprofessional rental agents - And Hertz HQ does nothing but condones their unprofessional actions. LA California

The customer service representative asked me if I would like to get a midsize SUV instead of the midsize vehicle I had booked and quoted me $52 a day for the vehicle.  The $52 was actually the upgrade fee. I was in a hurry and did not look closely at my contract - my fault.  The upgrade fee was $728 for the two weeks, more than double the weekly cost of the vehicle, which I also had to pay.  I made the mistake of not going through my rental agreement.  However, when I called Hertz billing, they kept saying that I signed the contract.  I told them it was about the principle.  I stated that they have representatives who are not up front, who are not honest or and not professional and for me that was the main issue.  But Hertz HQ embraces this kind of actions on the part of their employees and seem to want to just squeeze every $$ they could out of a customer and then hide behind the "contract."  I expect so much more from a company like Hertz.  I will never ever rent from Hertz again and would suggest folks be very careful if renting from Hertz.

You missed the point

Well Jim, I already established that it was my fault but it seems like YOU missed that point.  In terms of "smoke screens" no idea what you're on about. My overall point is that I expect a company like Hertz to hire and train real professional customer service representatives who are totally upfront with their clients about what service they would be receiving for an agreed dollar amount.  If a company like Hertz needs to hide behind a contract and then seek out ways to squeeze a few hundred dollars from a customer who got distracted, then I think that other potential customers should be ware.  Not everyone is as "smart" as you Jim.

You can blame them all you wish.  You can set up whatever smokescreen you wish.  In the final analysis this would NOT have happened if YOU would have been a smart consumer!  Just think of it...YOU sign a contract to obligate yourself to a set of terms and conditions and YOU don't even have the common sense to read what those terms and conditions are!!!  Smart!
