I purchased a couch and chair from Heilig Meyers Company in 1995, Yes 1995 the after Christmas sale. I paid on the furniture for over seven months, then I decided to purchase a stereo system from them. We are in the middle of 1996 now and the furniture was falling apart. This was added to my contract which made me paying an additional three months on the couch and chair (not including the new amount for the stereo), I was told this was taxes fees and a lot of other things thrown in.

In 1997 the store is going out of business. I get a letter telling me where I can send my payments. About five months after store closes and I am mailing payments I get a phone call to tell me that they have not received a payment and want to know when to expect one. I gather my bank statements and mail them in along with another payment. I hear nothing from them. I call to check on my payment because I am now down to my last two payments. The company I called says they no longer handle collections for Heilig Meyers and gives me another number, with the assurance that my payments were being forwarded and because I only have two I can send the last two payments into them. I mail in my last two payments. Call, go through (Let me connect you to someone who handles that) hold transfer game. Get cut off I don't remember how many times (working on almost 7 years ago memories here). Talk to someone, who gives me the number to the collection agencies now handling this.

I contact them, they can not find me anywhere in their system so I must not owe anything further. OkI'm good at this point right. 2003 I go to get a car loan. And guess what is on my credit reportOH YES, Heilig Meyers, not only for the total amount I started out owing but they have been reporting me 180 days past due for the past 7 years. I spent over a year looking for a number to contact someone about this and have gotten no where. I ran across this site and I hope someone somewhere out there sees it and can help me get at least a contact number.

Hi all. Just to let you know that if you paid all the money you owed to heilig meyers, or to the master trust. They now owe you a refund on the insurance, unemployment insurance, and any warranties that went along with your contract. The warranties were terminated when they shut the doors. They lost over half of the paperwork showing what all you paid for, but they didn't loose your names or how much you owed..LOL So if you have your contracts you need to make copies highlight the excess charges and send it registered mail demanding your refunds!!

Experian (formerly TRW) 888-397-3742
TransUnion 800-916-8800
Equifax 800-685-1111

My understanding is that you can also access these bureaus via the web. Hope this helps out!

I have also tried to solve some solutions with Heilig-Meyers Master Trust from Florida. I pulled up a number of searches and heard that OSI/Heilig-Meyers was bankrupt. I found a number to OSI/Heilig-Meyers Master Trust. I don't know if it will help you all resolve your matters but anything will help when it comes to credit. The phone number is (800)-425-0006.

They are open from M-F 8-5pm. I hope this info helps because I needed this info to fix my own credit. I tried to correct information on my report to buy a house but nothing was available and a lot of dead ends. I do know that a number of credit collection agencies picked up where HM left off. Good luck in trying to resolve your matters.

Helig Myers rip-off

#11Consumer Suggestion

I too had an account with Helig Myers in Lynchburg,VA and understand your frustrations with the payments. I finally contacted the credit bureau agencies and disputed the account stating that payments could not be made, no one to contact and since the company is now out of business to remove that item from the credit report. It was finally removed after their investigation. Be persistent and keep all the paperwork involved. I have seen "past credit issues" pop up again years later and you need this to resolve it. Hope this helps.
