On December 28th 2022 I was called into a meeting at our mentor showroom with my manager Robert Reed. On my way my vehicle broke down and I had to get a tow. To my surprise Robert offered to pick me up and drive me home. I wasn't expecting what happened next, he said I was not being brought back for 2023. I asked why and he said the companies main boss Joe Bobnar was retiring and his replacement Brian Rutherford was restructuring the business, I was told it wasn't just me and that 7 other people were also released. I asked about severance and vacation pay. Of course they couldn't do either. I then asked if I could file for unemployment and Robert Reed said "yes of course" he said we're not firing you for cause and you didn't quit so you should be fine. And I did. I got approved and received 6 months of unemployment at the amount of $10,134. Today 3/4/24 I got a notice from Ohio unemployment saying I fraudulently claimed unemployment and would have to repay the amount. I immediately called Robert and Jeff and of course they aren't returning phone calls or emails. Upon reading it fully it's definitely the Gunton corporation appealing my unemployment. It's been 15 months . I don't suggest anyone apply here , they lie during the interview process about the basepay & commission. They say it's 50k base plus commission. But what they don't tell you is it's only bonuses not commission, and they make it impossible to hit. If you actually want the 4-7% commission they cut your basepay to 20k. I should of quit immediately when I found out I had been lied to but I needed my job. They would constantly do commission reductions without notice which from my understanding is not legal. Every sales job I've ever had if your commission is reduced for any reason they inform you in writing. Also what they fail to tell you is jobs are 9-12 months out, which means you don't even get you commission for 10-13 months from sale date Do yourself a favor and apply somewhere else, I promise you'll regret working here. They boast about people being there 10+ years but the reality is once you leave they stop paying your commission after 90 days. So you make on average a million dollars in sales every year and if you leave they don't pay after 90 days so on average they keep 67% of commission owed to you. This is the one and only reason people don't quit. Buyer beware. Employees beware. Job seekers beware. These people are predator's. jeff_dim@gunton.com, robert_reed@gunton.com , mark_meade@gunton.com
