Complaint Review: Golds Gym and Peak Payment

Golds Gym and Peak Payment I paid my balance in full and requested cancellation of my membership, receipt of my cancellation request was acknowledged, 2 months later they started billing me again. I put stop payments on the fraudulent charges and they keep doubling the fraudulent outstanding balance they say I owe and refusing to cancel a membership that I cancelled on 01/30/2024. In January 2024 my debit card expired and I was issued a new card, same card number with new CVV; Golds Gym went to bill me for my membership and I hadn't updated the card info. Before I could get to Golds Gym to update my billing info their payment processor Peak Payment started relentlessly calling my phone and emailing me, as well as doubling the outstanding balance every few days. I went to my local Golds Gym in Greer, SC, updated my billing info and paid my outstanding balance on site ( the staff member that assisted me eliminated the "late fees" ); I then requested membership cancellation. I was informed that I couldn't cancel my membership at the gym and that I would have to download the golds gym application and request cancellation, which I did while still on site at the gym; i followed all cancellation instructions provided by golds gym. I received an acknowledgment, likely automated, that my cancellation request had been received; I believed that my membership had been cancelled as I think anyone probably would. Golds Gym billed me one more time, I believe for February, as the staff member said they would, then in March I did not get billed - membership cancelled or so I thought. In May the billing started again so I put a stop payment on the charges through USAA, then Peak Payment starts emailing and calling saying that I owe about $70, within a week this amount has swelled to $170 and they will continue to double it. Peak Payment says that they didn't cancel my membership to Golds Gym due to an outstanding balance but I had paid my balance in full at the gym on 01/30/2024 and requested cancellation on the same date. I have tried to explain to Peak Payment that I cancelled my account but I believe that they purposely engage in fraudulent and likely criminal billing conduct. It's really frustrating when you act in good faith to clear up an issue and cancel a membership only to start getting billed again a couple months later, and then are told that you can't cancel the membership that you already cancelled until you make a payment. If this isn't fraud I don't know what is. Golds Gym and Peak Payment are actively and knowingly engaging in illegal and fraudulent billing behavior.
