Upon arrival to Costa Rica, we exchanged our cash into local currency and were fleeced by the agency located immediately beyond the customs check, the Global Exchange group (Servicios de cambio de moneda). We exchanged $400 USD and were given ¢200721.53 CRC, paying roughly $47.31 in fees at this "commission free" vendor. It's unconscionable that the airport (Swissport) allows such questionable vendors to take advantage of arriving visitors in such a way.
