Fountain Technologies, Inc. filed Chapter 11 bankruptcy in New York bankruptcy court August 11th. Fountain is the parent company in a convoluted and secretive corporate structure that includes Quantex Microsystems, CyberMax, Pionex Computers and several other computer-related companies. The immediate impact of this filing is most apparent at Quantex, where 1500 of approximately 1600 employees have been laid off, according to former employees. Those released include the entire technical support staff. Despite this, Quantex continues to direct-market computers from their website. Although it is unlikely that calls to Technical Support will ever be answered, Quantex continues to claim in their advertising that their 24/7 tech support is the industry's best. The warranty information on their site is unchanged and does not reflect the current status of the company. No alternative technical support has been offered at this point, meaning that thousands of customers are left without technical support or a means to replace defective components despite the terms of their warranty.
