I applied for the pre-approved card with a confirmation number online but it kept saying this offer was not available for the residents of New York. So I called the 800 number and a rep named Dylan said that I was applying on another website. He took my information and social security number and then said that I will receive a notice for more verfication from 7 to 10 days in the mail. But was not approved at this time. If they commit fraud with my ss number, I know who to sue but I want this reported before something does happen. Please let me know what I have to do in case. Thank you. By the way, according to ther application, this offer is not available to the residents of Wisconsin, not New York! Beware of wolves in sheeps clothing!

While Identity Theft and Fraud are not laughing matters.

The only people who apply for this credit card is people who every other creditor won't touch with a 10 foot pole.  If you can't get approved by this credit card and it is not because of your location, you are probably in the top 1% of people with the worst credit history.  So for your own ego I would probably go with the "Well I am in NY and that is why".

As for them taking your SSN to commit fraud..again it isn't like they are going to start going out and opening up 10's of thousands of credit lines under your identity because every other creditor has already said they don't trust you with their money.

Of course if you are still worried you can put a "Fraud Alert" on your credit reports for free by contacting any of the big three.  You can do a temporary one by just requesting it.  If you want a more permenant one you need to have something such as an Identity Theft report you filed with your local law enforcement.
