I lost all data on my desktop after a windows update. Not sure if it could be recovered, I tried a couple of free programs that didn't work. I decided to try easeUS a company I now know is in China. I emailed the company before purchasing their software. I explained in detail what I did. I had explained that a Microsoft technician had me install windows again as part of the message.

They emailed me back answering my questions including about the 30-day refund if they couldn't retrieve my data. I ran the software with no success. I then got assistance from their tech support that also failed after having control of my computer. After one day of having the software, I was told I would not get a refund based on a technicality that says the software did not malfunction. Bait and switch from China.
