Every perspective homeowner wants to be treated equally and to have their warranty claims treated seriously. I recently bought a Emerald home in north Florida from DR Horton and the fit and finish quality of my home and many homes of many of my neighbors was terrible.

Issues included poor painting, damaged appliances, missing trim, poor trim, plumbing that was not finished, wrong color tile, missing shutters, and other issues. I had a total of over 67 warranty issues that I submitted.

One of the most annoying issue was the time it took for hot water to reach the master bathroom. During warm weather it took 1minute and 37 seconds. In the winter closer to 5 - 7 minutes as the hot water traveled under the slab foundation uninsulated to the bathroom. DR Horton was aware of the complaint and had installed workarounds in terms of hot water recirculation pumps and/or bridges for at least two homeowners. There response to me was that it complied with county codes and that they would not do anything because there was not problem.

My advise is to read the all the complaints on DR Horton before considering buying one of there homes. Talk to the homeowners in the development you are interested in and ask them about DR Horton's behavior. It you do buy from them be prepared to have a frustrating experience chasing warranty claims and sending your own money to fix their work or make you house right.
