Firestone still hiding the whole story

Early in the summer of 2000, on my way to lunch, I had one of my rear tires come all apart. I thought nothing of it at the time, but 3 months later I had another tire de-laminate, about the same time as the Firestone problem hit the news media. Since my wife was driving an Explorer I went to a Firestone dealer to see about her tires. They were very backed up, but told me to look for the letters VD in the DOT code.

After inspecting my wife's tires I checked the bad tire from my truck just out of curiosity, as my tires were Dayton, To my surprise I found the letters VD in the DOT code on my tires.

Now I am starting to get upset as I still have two of these tires on the front of my truck. I get on the Internet and start looking for Dayton tires, and eventually end up at a Firestone/Bridgestone site and discover that Dayton tires are made by Firestone. I found no reference however to my size
tires (33x12.50x16.5) which cost approximately $150.00 each.

I also went to every government web site and filed a report on the tires. I called everyone I could get a number for from Firestone, the independent tire dealer, the government, Bridgestone, and Dayton tires. No-one seemed interested in helping me or even in the fact that that other sizes of tires
made in the Decatur, Illinois plant were de-laminating. I also confirmed from the government site that indeed these tires were made in that plant.

Since then I have had another tire go bad and finally changed the fourth as well. I have not been able to get any satisfaction from Firestone at all. All I want is the money for the tires.
