On October 28th, 2012 I received an email from PrivacyGuard indicating that I had signed up for their service.  Upon calling PrivacyGuard to inquire how this happened I find out they have on file my credit card #, SSN, home address, phone number, and full name.   The supervisor told me that the information was provided to them from credit.com.

I then try to contact credit.com to find out how this happened.   The phone number listed on their website does not connect you with any human being.

It appears credit.com is compensated by PrivacyGuard for generating new sign-ups.  The scam is that PrivacyGuard is an identity theft service and uses scare tactics to get you to sign up for their service - when in fact they are actually participating in identify theft!!!  In that they partner with credit.com who has obtained personal information in an illegal manner and in turn provides it to them without any authorization.   Credit.com gets paid for these "leads" by creating new PrivacyGuard member accounts.  PrivacyGuard then charges your credit card.
