Complaint Review: Courtesy Chevrolet

Courtesy Chevrolet Carlos Valenzuela I purchased a car from them and they sold it to me with a broken tailight, no floormats, and charged me for an unuseable warranty. Phoenix AZ

I purchased a car from Courtesy Chevrolet.  The experience was not ideal but that is not my complaint.  My complaint is that they sold me a car with a broken tailight and refused to fix it.  They sold me the car without floormats and refused to replace them.  And finally, they charged me $995 for a warranty that was unuseable.  However, they did refund my money for the warranty 5 1/2 months later.

When I asked the Sales Manager to fix the tailight and replace the floormats he refused.  It is not the policy of Courtesy Chevrolet.

Put it in the contract

I am a consumer just like you and the others that responded to your report.

When working with (any) dealership, remember the sales reps and managers and finance office have no fiduciary duty to us (as consumers). So anything you ask for during the negotiation process needs to be in writing on the purchase contract in order to get that item, including any repairs and to protect your interest as well as you can.  If it isn't in writing, it doesn't exist.

As pointed out by Robert, if the dealer says they are going to fix some something, you really only have 3 options:

1) wait to buy the vehicle until the item is fixed or

2) walk away from the purchase and find something else, somewhere else or

3) put it in writing on the purchase contract with a date to be fixed. Option 1 or 2 is best. Option 3 protects your interests but is not nearly as effective as Option 2.

You are the buyer

First contrary to what you think, just because someone points out where you may be wrong. It doesn't mean that they work for the dealer. The people that posted here have NOTHING to do with this dealership. They like you are just people who came to a PUBLIC web site.

Now, with that said while they may be the dealer...YOU are the buyer. They are not going to go out of their way looking for issues, this is why you  were sold the car "As-Is". Meaning that once you sign on the dotted line anything and everything is YOUR responsibility.

If you wanted floor mats..you should have made them provide the mats to you BEFORE you bought the car. If the taillight is that big of an issue, YOU should have done more due dilligence in inspecting the car and pointing out the issue BEFORE you bought the car. Afterwards it just becomes a case of Buyer's Remorse.

No dealer would sell a car like this no matter how clueless the customer.
- Really? Sorry but there are a lot of dealers who would sell a car like that...and MUCH..MUCH..worse.

I asked you to correct it and you refused.
- If you asked AFTER the sale..of course they refused. If you asked BEFORE then you shouldn't have bought the car until they fixed it.

I refused to purchase the extended warranty but you charged me for a warranty I already receive with the car.
- Unless you are going to accuse them of Fraud in forging your signature on the sales documents, this isn't a case of you "refusing" to purchase the extended warranty. This is a case that you failed to read what you are signing and went right along with it. Oh and don't give us the "Oh they didn't give me time to look at the documents", or "I had to sign on a tablet and couldn't read", or the ever popular "They just told me to sign so I did". Because again YOU are the customer and they can not force you to do anything. If you want to read the document and they won't let you...LEAVE. If they are trying to get you to sign on an electronic pad...request paper. If they refuse...LEAVE.

In the end if the worst thing about the car is that you need to replace a taillight cover and get some floormats, you are doing VERY good.

Same Old IMMATURE Response!

You cannot offer any intelligent point-by-point rebuttal and you know it. Every nail was hit very squarely on the head and you know it. So like so many others, rather than FACE THE FACTS, it's the same old immature "you must work for them" garbage! How impressive!

Why not write back some more hilarious stuff! Why not write back and embellish the story and tell us just how rich you are and how the money means nothing to you? Like I said, I'm impressed and you have just gave everyone eavesdroping a good laugh!

You are the Dealer!

Your sales and service people did the inspection.  I test drove it and walk around it once.  The broken taillight covering is not easily noticeable.  No dealer would sell a car like this no matter how clueless the customer.  I asked you to correct it and you refused.

I refused to purchase the extended warranty but you charged me for a warranty I already receive with the car.  You're the Dealer!  You should know about the warranty!

Did You Even Look At This Car???

#6Consumer Comment

Did you check to see if the tail light was fixed BEFORE you agreed to sign the papers? Did you even test drive this thing? Did you check for floor mats BEFORE you signed the papers? This warranty...YOU agreed to that as well!

All thru your posting here YOU deny ANY responsibility, when it was UP TO YOU to know what you were buying. That's the way of this sorry society, isn't it? It's ALWAYS somebody else's fault and it's always somebody "forcing" you to do something, isn't it?

Did you read the paper work for ADD-ON, BOGUS FEES? Probably not. They told you where to sign and you didn't even bother to read anything or look at the car. I'm very impressed with your highly developed COMMON SENSE!
