Innocent of the charge, I received a speeding ticket (75 in a 60mph zone) on Feb 2nd south bound on 161 in rush hour traffic with construction. First of all, my little car would not survive an impact of 30mph, and with a 10 month old baby, I would not risk such precious cargo. Although the officer was rude and clearly abusing his authority, he informed me that I should take it up with the court since he was not going to conduct "court outside".

Unable to take off time and wanting the ticket not to appear on my record, I decide to plea a report of "no contest" and take defensive driving. To my surprise, I am still obligated and required to "pay" the ticket (sign a affidavit stating guilty), enclose amount of $64.00, submit copies of insurance policy (no card accepted), have a notary sign ($$) AND additional required expense of $10.00 to get a driving report. I have not yet incurred the expense for the defensive driving ($40.00 on line or more if in person). A total of more than $100.00. The removal of the ticket cost more than the ticket itself! Even after submitting the information, I still have to wait to get approval to take defensive driving.

When did the city get the right to charge MORE than the ticket? If all is runned by computer systems, what am I really paying for? Egocentric and abnocious policement...

I should have taken it to court so I get to spend their money and time without spending mine.

Rebuttal:

FYI, You stated exactly what you are paying to do, "wanting the ticket not to appear on my record".

Texas State Legistlature has passed laws that now allow Municipal Courts to still collect the money and fees that they make off of TRAFFIC TICKETS and other fines, while allowing you as a citizen to keep your INSURANCE RECORD clean.

Overall too many cities and municipalities have become too dependent on this income. If you examine cities budgets and such, you will find they do budget for this income. So there is a expected amount of tickets to be written and fines collected.

So much for that myth that there is "NO TICKET QUOTAS".

This is just information to make you aware that you GOT WHAT YOU PAID FOR. It may not be RIGHT or FAIR, but neither is the REAL WORLD. Personally I advocate requiring ALL FINES & FEES Collected by courts, Municipal, District, State or otherwise

should go to the STATE GOVT and then be redistributed to local cites for POLICE protection based on Population. This way there is no incintive to write more tickets or collect more fees. You still get the same amount of money.

To the Police Officers and City Govt authoritys:

DO YOUR JOB & REMEMBER THE SAYING THAT WAS POPULAR WITH POLICE IN THE 70's "TO PROTECT AND TO SERVE" THAT IS YOUR MISSION !!
