I have bought several items from Circuit City in Salem, NH over the years but recently for the first time bought an item, a CD-Rom that seemed to be rewrapped in cellophane. When I installed it the tray door would stick when opening. We needed it for the next day and if was after hours, so I fiddled with it some and it works ok now. However, I can't help but feel that someone with less patience had returned it. If this is a new way they are doing business, I will not go back. From what I read on this website it would seem this is what I can expect from them.

Some hints to Circuit City for retaining customers:
1. A store that wants to keep a good reputation will check the returns for defects, and not put the item back on the shelf.
2. Any returned item should be resold at a discount. They are charging a restock fee after all aren't they? This seems to be standard practice in the electronics industry now (Best Buy, Circuit City). They charge the restock fee, then if the item is not defective, repackage and sell it at a discount.

>>>>>Believe me or not, I finally brought an open box Sony Laptop from CC two weeks ago. The sellman was so convincing and told me that the extended warrantee can replace any hardware failed or bad due to damage or wear out or broken in any case even if I broke it accidentally.
Circuit City doesn't cover accidental damage, please read the documentation that you received with your warranty purchase more thoroughly. I'm sure the employee was misinformed.

>>>>>I brought the 4 years extended warrantee. They did not give me any contract or any paper except on the received that it said I have extended warrantee thru 3/24/2006.
They are required BY LAW to give you documentation on your warranty. Request it by calling that 1-800 number on your ticket.

>>>>>I did asked them but they told me if anything wrong I means anything, just bring back the laptop and they will fix it for me free. Because I am living close to CC I was happy at the time.
What they tell you and what actually happens is a different story. If it's too good to be true, it probably is.

>>>>>I asked them this is an open box item is all warrantee are the same as the new unopen box(?) They told me it is the same warrantee as the new one event it said it was an open box.
They got one thing right.

>>>>>After the bad impression you guy/gal said here I call the customer service that if I can cancel the contract which is around $370 since it was in less than a month old.
You can cancel the warranty coverage for a FULL refund within the manufacturer's warranty, if you have not used the service.

>>>>>The customer said I may not get back the full amount because this is the deal that I brought the laptop (Means they lower the laptop price to increase the extended warrentee price when I brought the laptop.
They lower open box items sometimes TO TRY AND BUNDLE WARRANTY. I hate it when that happens, it reduces the value of the service plan, imo.

>>>>>If I return the extented warrantee then the laptop price will increase like around $150 and I can only gat back a fraction of the extended warrantee money). They told me CC is a good service and if anything wrong with the laptop I can bring back and they will fix it.
You should, and can get back your entire payment on the warranty.

Whew. :)

Believe me or not, I finally brought an open box Sony Laptop from CC two weeks ago. The sellman was so convincing and told me that the extended warrantee can replace any hardware failed or bad due to damage or wear out or broken in any case even if I broke it accidentally.

I brought the 4 years extended warrantee. They did not give me any contract or any paper except on the received that it said I have extended warrantee thru 3/24/2006. I did asked them but they told me if anything wrong I means anything, just bring back the laptop and they will fix it for me free. Because I am living close to CC I was happy at the time.

I asked them this is an open box item is all warrantee are the same as the new unopen box(?) They told me it is the same warrantee as the new one event it said it was an open box.
After the bad impression you guy/gal said here I call the customer service that if I can cancel the contract which is around $370 since it was in less than a month old. The customer said I may not get back the full amount because this is the deal that I brought the laptop (Means they lower the laptop price to increase the extended warrentee price when I brought the laptop.

If I return the extented warrantee then the laptop price will increase like around $150 and I can only gat back a fraction of the extended warrantee money). They told me CC is a good service and if anything wrong with the laptop I can bring back and they will fix it.
