Complaint Review: CakeFace Cupcakes

At the last minute (the week prior), I ordered a wedding cake, cupcakes, Rice Krispies and strawberry towers all for a wedding. I sent Lauren, the owner (who operates in Illinois and Los Angeles) emails with descriptions as well as EXACT PHOTOS of the items I wanted and the EXACT COLORS, the desserts should be. I made sure to be as descriptive as possible so that it would be easy for her and there would be no issues. I thoroughly and many times explained the wedding colors (which the main color was Rose gold or blush with ivory and navy blue accents). I even paid her ridiculous "last minute fee" (which it shouldn't matter when I order, you either have availability or you don't). Lauren didn't think that she would be able to find rose gold/blush for the cake, but we discussed coming as close to it as possible), however, right before she invoiced me, she sent me a photo of rose gold coloring she'd found, and charged me extra for it and for the overnight delivery. I agreed and was invoiced a total of $700 for everything (which was great considering).

The strawberry towers I sent her were pink and ivory with candy pearls, and the Rice Krispies were to be "drizzled" with rose gold or blush and candy pearls, the cupcakes were supposed to be rose gold with shimmer powered and the CAKE! It was 3 layers (top: rose gold or blush, middle: ivory, and bottom: a marveled navy blue). I paid Lauren a $45 delivery fee even though she said she didn't have time to deliver the items to the wedding. We agreed that she would drop everything off to the bride the night before but that EVERYTHING WOULD BE SECURED to allow easy transport to the venue. What Lauren delivered was NOT what I ordered. I am assuming she was incapable of creating the rose gold (or even blush)that I paid her for, that she charged me extra for! She delivered (at midnight) a navy blue and ivory cake with NO BOX, NO NOTHING!!! Just a cake on a cardboard circle..... it had these horrible oversized synthetic flowers on it (why not edible flowers) The strawberries? Navy blue and ivory with white pearls and synthetic flower fillers (I'm assuming she grew tired of dipping strawberries and said "eff it"), the cupcakes were for sure "store brought" and had a regular white icing on it, when I clearly said rose gold.

Also I asked her to make them in chocolate, lemon and vanilla. She made strawberry and chocolate..... And not a Rice krispy in sight. Despite my sending photos, NOTHING and I mean nothing was done that I asked. She obviously wasn't capable of doing what I asked, and never once bothered calling me before making the decision to omit the main color and change the entire color scheme. The cake and all of the desserts honestly looked as if they belonged at my grandmothers funeral. It was awful and the bride was in tears on HER wedding day. I attempted to reach out to Lauren, and she wouldn't answer nor respond to my text UNTIL I contacted PayPal to hold the funds I'd paid her until she fixed it (that's all we wanted was for her to fix it). She finally reached out and gave a half as$ed apology and then proceeded to try to say it was a "miscommunication".

She then lied and tried to say she had attempted to call me multiple times about the colors. She didn't. The only time she called me was at midnight on her way to deliver the cake. Oh and she text after she dropped the cake off to say "I forgot the Rice Krispies in the back seat"..... she never made them in the first place! If you know that you're being paid to bake for a wedding, and you forgot anything, I think you should turn around and deliver it. Very long story short, DO NOT ORDER FROM THIS BAKERY!!!!!! You will regret it. Anyone who would not take responsibility or be able to empathize or care about ruining a wedding cake and being as careless as she was should not be recommended for any events. Jamie cakes, Hansen's, Mary's cakes, are ALL great bakeries in Los Angeles tht unfornately has no time on that week to bake for us. She only offered to refund the Rice Krispies. She never addressed the fact that she said she could do rose gold and charged me for it. I've contacted PayPal and will be getting my money back.
