I had my van brought into the dealer for a knocking sound and no heat, they said it was engine, it needed a new one, I have a warrentee, they rented me a car from a car rental agency, on Dec 23rd 1999, they had my van for 42 days, not done until Feb 2 2000.

I was charged 1200$ or more for the rental car, they paid a small portion, 450$ and I was stuck with the rest, over 700$, I want my money back, I feel they took advantage of me as I am a disabled widow and on a low income, every time I called to see if van was ready they said they would pay the rental, and when the van was ready, they told me if i didn't get it that day they would start charging me storage, I think I should charge them storage for the days I had no van and it just sat in their place,,

I have filed a complaint wihth DMV, and I will take it to small claims but now i don't have money to live on, and it costs money to file.

Being in the car business myself, one thing is very important before you go to court.

Did you sign a waiver of estimate? This is a sheet detailing the work to be done, and the expected or estimated cost. This can either be done before or after the work is done, and DMV insists that all repair shops/dealers obtain from each customer.

If you signed this, then you officially acknowledged that you agreed to the work done and the charges. If you did not, then you may contest these charges.

By the way, I am curious to know what DMV did. I am not being critical here, but in my experience CT state agencies seem to protect only the consumer. I have had numerous times where customers did not pay, and I had to still bend over backwards to return their vehicle without payment. This last comment is in no way directed to you - I sincerely hope that everything works out for you, and would be surprised that DMV did not help.
