I purchased a totoya 22r engine for my 1993 pick up for $1075. At the time of purchase I was told that engine was out of an older(newer) model vehicle and was ready to install and go. I researched for 1 month trying to get the right person to install this engine for the right price. I was given the name of a highly recommended mechanic that specialized in installing this specific engine and had done just that for a period of 20 years or better.

When the engine arrived it was detected that this engine was from and earlier(later) model vehicle which called for a a great deal of alterations to get this to work, nothing internal with the engine. The timimg assembly was inspected and was determined to be set at the correct timing specification from the factory settings. After the installing the engine and driving for a period of 4 weeks the engine decidied to start leaking from around the head gasket. This was on a Friday morning.

The same day about 3 hours later I went to lunch and as I placed the vehicle in reverse I heard a funny noise as if I had backed over something. I got out of the vehicle and looked underneath it to find nothing, but as soon as i proceeded to place the truck in 1st gear to leave the parking area the truck lost power as if I was trying to pull off in 2nd gear. I immediately shut the engine down coasting about 50-100 yards to a stop in an abandoned store lot. After allowing the truck to stop I tried cranking and it just spinned over.

I myself detected at that time that something was definitely wrong and called the repair shop to come and check out my vehicle and called ASAP motors expalining of what happened. After arriving the next day about 9 hours later the mechanic detected that the timing had jumped. Needless to say ASAP is stating that this is not covered under warranty due to misuse or improper installation of the engine and they want repair or replace this engine.

Words of advice is that is doesn't matter how many differnt names you have of who you talek to there. They all pass the same notes and have no sympathy for an individual that has just spent over $1000 with them. DO NOT TRUST THIS BUSINESS, YOU WILL END UP IN THE DARK ALSO! CHECK OUT THE PREVIOUSLY FILED COMPLAINTS AND YOU WILL SEE FOR YOURSELF.
