Anthem deliberately delays and denies pet scans for cancer till the last minute and then refuses to send the denial report so that you are unable to appeal it.
I have a family history of brain, colon, ovarian, uterine and lung cancers in just my grandfather and my mother. there are aunts and an uncle too all on my mothers side of the family. I was diagnosed with malignant cancer of the uterus recently. I have to have surgery to remove the ovaries, uterus, cervix and the lymph nodes. My Dr prescribed a pet scan head to thigh to see if it has spread before I have surgery. I am scheduled for the PET scan next tuesday at 7am. They denied it on Friday as medically unnecessary. I called all day to get the denial report. The LPN Theresa Bowen dodged me all day and refused to speak to my husband even though I gave permission. I spoke with multiple people in medical management I never got the copy I was promised. It is now saturday and they are all closed.
There is not enough time left to make an appeal as there is only business hours Monday. It is my true belief that they deliberately did not send me the denial.
If you have cancer pick a different insurance company. If you have any serious diseases or have a serious injury pick a different company.
Besides this incident I have on previous incidents been completely denied coverage on several occasions- in an emergency room with a TIA, In a breast cancer clinic and various doctors offices. They say my husband and I are divorced (we are not) how do you prove you are not? they don't hand out Not Divorced papers and Anthem doesn't accept marriage licenses proof. But that is another long sad tale for another time.
