American Home Sheild (AHS) is definitely a waste of your money! We bought a 20+ year old house and the seller paid for the AHS warranty. If you can get them to even send someone out, the repair person will use terms like, "improperly installed" and "non-covered" and others.

One plumber insisted that our sump pump failed because of rust and gravel in the pit, yet I had to give him a flashlight so he could see inside. He never touched the pump or did anything else. I spoke to the AHS rep and she said he was correct. She referred to the contract. I asked for the paragraph number. She said, "oh, its not in yours, but it is a part of the contract!" These guys are pros. The service person just didn't want to mess up his average and lose his chance to be one of their contractors!

This guy claimed my toilet was improperly installed and that he couldn't fix the leak. Same for my copper pipes which started to leak. No coverage.

The one repair I got covered was when my hot water heater exploded and I had to appeal to get someone to come out that day--their provider would not come for two days!

Trying to get my stove and refridgerator repaired have also been fun. I think I will start trying to tape record (with permission, of course) the calls with the AHS reps. They either don't have access to the file, or they just pretend to be dumb and ask you the same questions each time you call. They promise to follow-up and never do. Save your money. This company is a rip off of the highest, sleaziest order. State's Attorney General's should shut them down.
