I had my 1994 Dodge Caravan towed to All Tune and Lube on a Saturday and since it arrived at the end of the day, they started working on it on their next available work day, which was Monday. Upon talking to them on the phone they told me it should cost $300 (at this time we were unaware that I would need my half shaft replaced. It was replaced 40,000 miles ago, which is not the usual shelf life of a axle, so I'm suspect to their diagnoses). The parts I needed were the Axle half shaft for the drivers side, a hub assembly, wheel bearing and output shaft seal.

After speaking to them Monday they told me it would cost me $829. I could not afford it, so I checked around and decided I'd just buy the parts myself, I could get them all new for around $200, and the work would probably take me a few hours. So I decided to go about it that way, and upon telling them of my idea, they told me that they had a disassembly fee, and with the $45 dollar towing it would cost me $110 to get my van back. Due to the distance from home (30+ miles), gas, a dolly and the inconvenience was not worth it and I decided to let them take care of it. By this time they said they could do it for $450.

That was with them welding the problem and just jerry rigging the thing. When I drove off with my van I was appeased, the problems were seemingly gone. Once I hit the freeway, however, they reared their ugly heads once again. So I called a junk yard, bought the part they replaced for $45 bucks, and replaced it myself. I found that they stripped 2 nuts, and forgot to put a seal in which prevents air from getting into/onto the wheel bearing and hub assembly.

I was a fool in allowing someone else to work on my vehicle. Their entire plan was to get my van in their shop so that they could beat anyones deal by utilizing the $110 towing/disassembly fee. I feel cheated, and although it was my fault that this happened to me, based on my experiences I can say with confidence that this is an untrustworthy and uncouth company. So hopefully if you're reading this, you'll heed my warning and avoid ever doing any business with All tune and Lube.

I have been going to ALL TUNE AND LUBE IN TROY for the past 4 years.Of all the time I have been there there service have been great and price were amazing. Before I started going to All tune and lube I went to many other big giant facilities, and couldnt find a single honest repair facility until all tune and lube. The manager will do anything to make his customers happy. I have spent alot of money with them and of all the time been extremely happy.
As far as you vehicle, as I see in ur complaint if u towed in ur vehicle to them they have to charge you a towing fee and diagnostic fee.
These guyz run their business on repeat and referall customers if they were doing bad work they wont be getting any repeat business. And as far as i can see and As long as i have been deal with them I think all the customers that went there keep going again and again and recommend other peopl
thank
john

I'll agree that I did agree to have it rigged, but the only reason why was because of the outrageous fee's they would have imposed otherwise. I was content with the original price I was told over the phone, not the new fee they decided upon. I do understand their position, but their business practices were "acquire owners vehicle, take it apart and find whatever they can wrong with it, then hit them with a fee that would make it cheaper to have us do it, rather than get it done at another place."

I told them not to do anything to my van that cost any money without my approval, and I did not approve a disassembly fee. So while I guess I should have asked about a disassembly fee, an honest business would tell you, and how could I know before I experienced something like this. So yeah, I'll admit to my folly for not asking them about a disassembly fee, but they did not do as I told them, when it comes to asking me for my approval for a disassembly fee.

As for the other person, I do understand your plight, but I can not trust a franchise that would impose such sanctions, nor can I trust anything associated with it. I do understand, and perhaps you are as honest as they'll allow you to be, but trust is not something easily gained once lost, and I'd rather try my luck with randoms, rather than go with something that has failed me before.

I appreciate your effort in trying to create an honest business with a dishonest company though, as your situation is nearly the same as my own. You were in too deep before you knew what they were all about. That is something I can understand, and your effort to be honest is something that I respect.

You declined having the vehicle repaired correctly, and opted instead to have it "rigged".

Then you complain about that when it failed. Big surprise!

And of course, you complained about being charged for their diagnosis. In other words, you don't understand why mechanics don't work for FREE!

Could someone please explain why I own $250K worth of tools and equipment, and how I was supposd to pay for it all by earning FREE?

Wali of Lincoln Park, Michigan,

This statement "So hopefully if you're reading this, you'll heed my warning and avoid ever doing any business with All tune and Lube." is very unfair to the reputable All Tune and Lube's across the country including our location in Northern Virginia. The problem you had was very unfortunate that is for sure, and more then anything, the reason you were handled this way is more a problem with All Tune and Lube International, the parent company. Trust me when I say, the ONLY reason we are called All Tune and Lube is because we bought the business from another person. It is in a FANTASTIC location and my husband having had automotive experience in the past, we thought it would be a great fit for us, so we put ALL of my 33 years of retirement money into it (which I am today sooooo sick over). The franchise company pushes the franchisee into doing things (like you experienced), the way they want them done. We quickly found out that you don't treat people the way the Franchise company wants you to. It is very unfortunate that you had this experience, and being an owner of an ATL who does NOT follow these ugly practices that are shoved down our throats, I feel bad for this shop owner (the owner of the business you went to), and for you as well.

I am very sorry for your BAD experience and I HOPE that any consumer reading this takes this person's BAD experience for what it is....a bad experience with an ATL located in Michigan. Our Northern Virginia Shop is Owner Operated and we take PRIDE in everything we do for our customers and for the Community that we serve as a whole!!!!! Happy Holiday!

Sincerely,

ATL Owner in Northern VA.
