I traded a 1999 Dodge Intrepid in on a leased 2000 Ford Windstar minivan. I was led to believe they were paying off my car, and the agreed price of the new van was $29,680.00. I told the salespeople at least three times that if they could not offer me the payoff on my car, I did NOT want to do business because I did not want to still be paying on a car I no longer owned.

After I recieved two letters from the leasing company, stating that things were not properly disclosed on the lease, I took a good look at the lease. One of the things not disclosed was that they stuck me for an extended warranty, without my knowledge or consent. The charge for that started at $1100.00, but when they were through shuffling paperwork it grew to $1495.00.

The price I agreed to was $29,680.00, but on the final lease agreement (they went through three agreements), it ended up as $33,615.00. I called to find out what the difference was, they told me it was negative equity in my car! In other words, they did not pay off my car as they had led me to believe. The very condition I had said repeatedly I did NOT want to do business under!

I tried to speak to the company to resolve my complaint, but they would not return my calls. After doing some research, and using a formula found at a consumer website, I discovered I was actually ripped off to the tune of $11,944.69! They were deceptive and dishonest.

Car buyers need to understand that car manufactures get paid once the dealer gets the new car on their lot. Car manufactures in most cases do not care if the dealers lie to the car buyers. This has been going on for years. Most TV media and newspapers will never expose the dirty little secrets of car dealers because they DO NOT WANT TO LOOSE ADD REVENUE $$$$
