A couple of weeks ago I had gotten my 98 Buick Riviera towed to Aamco Transmissions of Manchester, CT. I needed to have my transmission rebuilt as well as a torque converter.  The day of my car being towed I did not receive a quote on a new transmission but I was assured that I would be contacted once they had found out exactly what needed to be done. I received a call from Aamco a couple days later and was notified that I needed a new transmission as well as a torque converter.

I asked how much a transmission rebuild kit would cost and I was quoted $1500 also I asked how much a torque converter would cost and I was quoted $300. These prices seemed fair to me, so the man that called me quoted me $1800 total for the transmission rebuild kit and the torque converter. I agreed, soon after he had promised me the price would not go over $2200. I asked him why would it get up to $2200 and he said to me in case we need to replace "hard parts," these "hard parts" were not included in the transmission rebuild kit. I said ok but please call me before you put any hard parts in and he assured me he would.

Almost two weeks later I get a phone call from Aamco informing me my car was finished. I said "great and how much would it be?" The man said it was $3500 for everything, right away I was taken back. Then he went on to say how he had to replace all these different parts in order to replace the transmission. I confronted him right away and said "wait a minute, I told you to call me if you were to used any hard parts." From there he said but wait you're getting a deal because we took off $1300 of parts for you. This seemed all too fishy so I asked him why didn't you call me? He apologized for the miscommunication but continued to raise his voice at me when he noticed I was getting upset. I kept repeating "I didn't know you were putting all those extra parts in and I told you to call me if you were to." The argument was so out of control I could not reason with this man. I did not want anything but a rebuilt transmission and a torque converter. I did not approve Aamco Transmissions to replace any other parts without my knowledge. Aamco Transmissions of Manchester, CT is charging me $400 for parts that I had not been contacted about or approved.
